Re: [mylifeismine] Re: Success Inc.

i have had more than a few friends commit suicide
and yes some of them were and are role models in one way or another
i do not define them by that one act
an action that i would never describe as simple
have you ever made a noose to hang yourself?
after searching every corner of your being for some reason not to
have you ever been that low?
have you ever been amazed at how although your life is intact and you are getting by just fine
you feel so dark that you can no longer feel anything
obviously i chose to stay, was stopped by others at times only to find myself still here
nothing more nothing less
surrounded by a darkness i could do nothing about no matter what i said or did
sometimes surrounded by light
i feel it getting dark and i know it is going to be bad, and after many years of this and all the things i have tried i know i have to simply survive an unpleasant time and it does not just shrug off
it is not something i can entirely control, moderate perhaps, make the outcome less dire than it may have been but control it?
have you been to these places is all i ask
a little like being a drug addict or prostitute
can you really understand how that feels if you have not lived it do you think?

Dear Matthew,

In everything you said, only the line "we can choose what we do, how we act now" offers Hope.

Those two psychiatrists made their choice. That choice was to end their mortal lives. In short, they simply "gave up".

Would YOU choose them as role models?

I offer you these 4 quotations from "Buddha's Little Instruction Book" by Jack Kornfield (author of A Path With Heart):

"Every life has a measure of sorrow. Sometimes it is this that awakens us.

"Learn to let go. That is the key to happiness."

"The trouble is that you think you have time."

"In the end these things matter most: How well did you love? How fully did you live? How deeply did you learn to let go?"

Matthew, at the end of our own worldly lives, we just leave EVERYTHING behind.

Perry

i still think you are linking the two
and you completely ignored my second statement that waa a direct response to part of your statement
i knew two psychiatrists, people that treat depression daily married to eeach other who died in each others arms, a suicide pact
it is nevr so clear and easy
i will not say you are wrong ,because you are not
obviously a pretty positive person , so keep up the positive , er what were they? power statements.
i will not tell you why but many of us who find ourselves at a low ebb at times played no part in arriving there
some things happen to children, to this one as a child, that are beyond their control,
unspeakable things
unavoidable things
things that scar
things that we could have no control over
we can choose what we do, how we act now
but can never forget who we are where we have been what we have seen and what has beyond our control been done to us

yours with best wishes

matt

I agree, Matthew: there is NO direct correlation between money and depression. I posted that quote by Warren Buffett "Money is a by-product of something I like to do very much" to highlight what many hardworking people forget: that money is but a natural outcome for engaging in meaningful activity. Workers get depressed from doing jobs they "hate" because they "have to". It is not money that causes depression. Rather it is the lack of fulfilment from one's activity that leads to depression. The key, therefore, is to find and engage in meaningful activity - where money just flows as an outcome. Perry

Our human nature seems to dwell on the negatives - and downplay the positives - which inevitably leads to a downward spiral towards, your guessed it, depression. It is my intention to use this forum, ultimately, towards well-being and success. By way of these "power" messages, we turn our focus towards where we want TO GO (and NOT what we want to avoid).
